Tyrone area resident Johnn Molburg has been busy over the past month participating in international sled dog races from Haliburton, Ontario to Wisconsin to Maine.
On January 28, Molburg competed in the Adult Skijoring Two-dog Speed class at the Haliburton Highlands Dogsled Derby Skijoring race in Haliburton, Ontario, taking third place.
He finished the eight mile course with a total time of 00:36:13.
This event was produced by the Haliburton Sled Dog Race Committee.
On February 4, Molburg made the trip to Land O Lakes, Wisconsin where he took third place in the Adult Skijoring Three-dog Speed class at the Three Bear Winter Race Skijoring race. He finished the eight-mile course with a total time of 00:37:37.
Molburg also competed in the Adult Sled Four-dog Speed class at the Three Bear Winter Race, taking seventh place with a total time of 00:36:23 on the eight-mile course.
This event was produced by the Wisconsin Trailblazers Sled Dog Club.
Finally, on February 11, Molburg took 11th place in the Adult Sled Four-dog Speed class at the Mushers Bowl – Bridgton Sled race in Bridgton, Maine.
He finished the seven-mile course with a total time of 00:33:51.
This event was produced by the Down East Sled Dog Club.
The Haliburton Highlands Dogsled Derby, the Three Bear Winter Race and The Mushers Bowl are all sanctioned by the International Sled Dog Racing Association and count toward the International Championship series for sled dog racing.
According to his profile with the International Sled Dog Racing Association, Molburg has been racing sled dogs since 1957. He has received many national and international awards and medals throughout his career.

The ISDRA was formed in 1966 by Canadian and American mushers to organize and unify the sport of sled dog racing. Today, ISDRA annually represents over 100 days of sled dog racing and thousands of individual race performances. Competitions are held for adult and junior divisions and team sizes range from unlimited to one-dog. Racing action begins in mid-October and ends in late March with multiple ISDRA sanctioned events occurring on any given weekend during January and February. Annual membership averages 850 with 55 to 75 sanctioned events.
