Kelly Ann Getz, age 39, of Ojai, CA and a former Tyrone and Chambersburg, PA resident, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 after having been diagnosed with cervical cancer in the spring of 2005. She was born at the Altoona Hospital on August 26, 1967. She is survived by her parents, David and Margurette Getz of Warfordsburg, PA and Connie Bloom (Getz) Kaiser and Paul Kaiser of Chambersburg, PA, a brother Kevin and sister-in-law Jane Carter Getz of Jackson, Wyoming and a close friend John “Buck” Shelton of Ojai, CA. She was preceded in death 16 years ago by an infant son, Samuel Allen who died at the age of 2 months.
As a young woman Kelly moved to California and lived in the Arcata area, graduating from Humboldt State University with an art degree and in 1999 she moved to the Ojai area. Kelly’s life’s work has consisted of original artwork, including paintings, sketches, jewelry, leather works, web page designs and photography.
An outdoor memorial service was held on the morning of March 11 at Meditation Mount, a mountainside east of Ojai overlooking the beautiful Ojai Valley. Her family and friends were in attendance for this beautiful service. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery in Arcata, CA where her son is buried. An exhibition of her artwork, sponsored by the Dream Foundation, was held in the afternoon of March 11 in the Artist’s Cottage at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa in Ojai. This exhibition will be on display and items will be for sale until April 10. The entire sale proceeds and memorial contributions will be made to the Kelly Getz Memorial Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, 202 E. A Memorial Service will be held to honor Kelly’s life on Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at the St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East (Route 30 East), Chambersburg, PA. Memorial contributions can be made to the Kelly Getz Memorial Fund as described above.
