Tyrone Area School Board member Raymond Detwiler is seeking re-election for a second four-year term on the board.
Detwiler, a 1973 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, served four years in the United States Marine Corps. He has worked for New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. since 1979.
Detwiler and his wife have four children, two are graduates of Tyrone Area High School and two are currently students there.
He serves as Chairman of the Public and Student Relations Committee of the Tyrone Area School Board. He is also an active member of the Tyrone Church of the Brethren.
Detwiler states that his reasons for running for office is that he was alarmed with some of the test scores and materials being taught. He stated that his first four years have proved that some of his concerns were correct and some weren’t.
“I have always been taught that an elected representative’s first and primary obligation is to the people who elect them. In my first term, I have always tried to be there for the people, which is what I plan on doing this term if elected,” Detwiler said. “As School Director, I will be there and do my best for the people.”
