At last evening’s meeting, the Tyrone Area School Board voted unanimously to appoint Daryl Irene Smith of James Creek, PA as the school district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
Smith is currently a nonpublic supervisor and curriculum specialist for Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 in Altoona. She has also served as an elementary school principal at Dickey Elementary and Sugar Valley Elementary schools from the Keystone Central School District from the Lock Haven area. She also served as an elementary principal of the Northern Bedford Elementary School in Loysburg, PA. Prior to her experience as an administrator, Smith served as an elementary teacher in the Huntingdon Area School District.
She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Juniata College. She completed all of her graduate studies, including her masters degree in educational administration, administrative certification, letter of eligibility at the Pennsylvania State University.
Smith will replace current Assistant Superintendent Joann M. Lang, who will be retiring in June after many years of service as a teacher and administrator in the Tyrone Area School District.
