In 2001 Prevention Health Screening began serving communities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and West Virginia.
Screenings are held in churches, senior centers, community centers, country clubs, corporations, synagogues and organization meeting places to name a few.
The mission of Prevention Health Screenings is to reduce the occurrence of catastophic disease by offering affordable health screens, finding the people who are at risk of Heart disease, Stroke, Lung Disease and Osteoporosis. Also, to provide individuals with more information about stroke and vascular disease. By learning the risk factors and warning signs, and the steps that can be taken to avoid these diseases, individuals can be proactive about personal health and wellness.

According to PHS, screenings are offered to people who wish to take an active role in the management of their own health care and disease prevention. Most of the health conditions screened for have no prior warning signs or symptoms and doctors typically cannot prescribe these screenings for a patient who has no symptoms of vascular disease, Osteoporosis or respiratory disease. Medicare and most insurance plans do not cover the cost of these studies unless a patient does have specific symptoms.
The tests are fast, accurate, painless and affordable. Registered sonographers use the same state-of-the-art ultrasound technology used in hospitals and diagnostic laboratories.
A Board Certified Vascular Physician reviews and confirms all vascular screenings before they are mailed out. Results should be received within 10 to 14 days. Screenings are payable by cash or personal check only.
Prevention Heath Screenings does not replace your doctor or hospital in any way. They simply supply additional information so that you may avoid serious health problems.
Screenings available include the Stroke/Carotid Artery Vascular study, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm study, Peripheral Vascular Disease study, Osteoporosis screen and Pulmonary Function screen.
The Carotid Artery Vascular Study costs $45. According PHS, 75 to 80 percent of strokes are linked to Carotid Artery Blockage.
During this screening, the ultrasound duplex color flow imager will allow the registered vascular technologist to visualize the buildup of any fatty plaques in the carotid artery that could lead to a stroke.
The cost for the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm study is also $45. The majority of patients with an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm have no symptoms until rupture.
This study helps the technologist visualize and measure the Abdominal Aorta to detect an aneurysm or enlargement of the main artery of the body which could lead to rupture and death.
The Peripheral Vascular Disease Study or Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) is $45 and helps determine the ratio of the blood pressure in the lower legs to the arm blood pressure. An abnormal ABI indicates lower extremity arterial inflow disease.
Peripheral Vascular Disease in the lower extremities is also linked to coronary artery disease.
Interested individuals can choose to a complete vascular screening, including all three of the tests above for $105, which includes a savings of $30.
The Osteoporosis screening with the Achilles Express Ultrasonic Densitometer costs $25. Bone Mineral Density of the heel is performed using no harmful X-rays. Immediate results are provided, which the patient can take with them. The results are given in the form of a “T – score”, an indicator recognized by the World Health Organization, that can then be taken to the physician.
The last test is the Pulmonary Lung Function screening utilizing computerized spirometry measurements of an individuals forced vital capacity or exhalation. The cost for this screening is $25.
Immediate results tell participants if they are at risk for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
For those wishing to utilize several of the screenings, there are options to have multiple screenings.
The first choice is a complete vascular screening, including the first three screenings plus a choice of either an Osteoporosis screen or Pulmonary Function screen. The cost for this is $120.
The second option is a complete wellness screening and it includes all five of the screenings mentioned. The cost is $129.
