As Memorial Day weekend comes upon us, that means the Tyrone Community Pool will be opening for the 2007 season.
The pool will be open May 26, 27, 28, June 2, and June 3. The pool will officially open on June 8. Pool hours will run from noon until 8 p.m.
Season passes are currently available at the Tyrone Borough office. All passes purchased on or before June 8 will receive a 10 percent discount. Fees for season passes for Tyrone Borough residents are as follows: family passes $70 and $63 with the early discount, adult passes are $50 and $45 with the early discount, and all senior citizen, disabled, and youth passes are $40 and $36 with the early discount.
Season passes for non-residents of Tyrone Borough are as follows: family passes $95 and $85.50 with the early discount, adult passes are $75 and $67.50 with the early discount, and all senior citizen, disabled, and youth passes are $65 and $58.50 with the early discount.
Family swimming is open to the public. Families can bring their favorite water toys and enjoy a day of family fun. Admission to family swim for the general public is $5 for adults 18 and over, $4 for swimmers ages 6-17 years of age and children age 5 and under are free when accompanied with a paying adult.
There will also be special evening rates. Daily admission rates from 6-8 p.m. for the general public will be $2 for adults 18 and over, $1 for swimmers 6-17 years of age and children age 5 and under are free when accompanied with a paying adult.
Lap swimming is open to anyone interested. Lap swimming will be circle-swimming style in two of the lanes. The rest of the pool will be open for general swimming. It is up to the discretion of the guards to open or close lap lanes based upon the number of lap swimmers and pool attendance. The hours for lap swimming will be Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m. and Monday and Friday from 7 to 8 p.m.
The pool is also available for private parties on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. The following dates are available for rent on a first come, first serve basis: June 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8, 22, 29. $100 with nonrefundable deposit of $50 for the first 50 individuals and $2 for each additional individual thereafter for a maximum of 100 individuals per party. All parties must be pre-registered. The concession stand will be available upon request. Finger foods , cake, ice cream, etc. are permitted. However, no grilling or glass containers will be allowed in the pool area.
There are also swim school programs offered at the Tyrone Community Pool. First Splash Swim School will consist of a half-hour lessons each day for eight day lessons Mondays through Thursdays. Class times will be held from 11-11:30 a.m. prior to the pool opening to the general public. Classes will be offered to three different levels. The levels include the toddler class for swimmers ages 19 months to 4 years of age with no water experience and parent must accompany the child in the water, the beginner class for children ages 5 and up with no previous water experience, and the intermediate class for children ages 6 to 12 with experience swimming the front crawl with their face under water and unassisted back float. There are four sessions for swim school. Session one will be held on June 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 , and 21, session two will be held on June 25, 26, 27, 28, and July 2, 3, 5, 6, session three will be held on July 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, and session four will be held on July 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, and August 1, 2. Enrollment is limited to seven children per class. To ensure a spot in the class please register early.
