Mr. Alfred L. “Fred” Getz, age 77, of Warriors Mark went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening, May 30, 2007 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in Tyrone, the son of Sylvester and Helen Mills Getz. He was first married to Janet Port and secondly to Beverly Flatt.
Surviving is his wife of 32 years and the following children: daughter Debra, wife of Richard Cutts of York, ME; daughter Rosanna Baker of Independence, MO; daughter Cynthia Bolin-Engman of Independence, KS; a step-daughter, Kathleen Drew of Spring Creek, NV and a step-son Gregory Schmitz and wife Linda of Altoona.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a brother Milton and wife Kate of Tyrone, a sister Susanne, wife of Samuel Winters of Birmingham and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Sondra Getz.
He was a graduate of Tyrone High School class of 1948. Fred served his country in the US Navy and then went to Electronics Training School. He had his own stereo center business in California and moved to Pennsylvania when his father became ill. He started Getz Electronics in Tyrone, then went with Montgomery Ward in Tyrone and later operated the Tyrone Radio Shack.
Fred was an active member of the Tyrone Rotary Club, having served that organization as president. He also was active with the Main Street Managers program of Tyrone and served on the Tyrone Revitalization committee.
In his retirement he was interested in playing his guitar and many other instruments, enjoying music sessions with his family and friends. Fred enjoyed collecting truck banks, movies, his computer and his loving family.
To our husband, father, brother and grandfather we love you and will miss you very much.
Funeral service for Alfred L. Getz will be Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor Paul Bottenfield officiating.
Interment will follow in Burket Cemetery, Warriors Mark. Friends will be received Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
