At Monday’s meeting, Tyrone Borough Council approved amendments to the borough’s ordinance entitled ‘solid waste’, article 2 entitled ‘waste management and recycling’ to require any person hauling his own municipal waste to also utilize and pay the fee of the borough’s designated municipal waste hauler.
The amendments to this ordinance explain that there will be no exceptions and all borough residents must use the services and pay the fee for the borough’s designated municipal waste hauler, which is currently Burgmeier’s of Altoona. Both the owner and anyone leasing the property will be responsible to utilize and pay for the services of the designated hauler.
Basically, this change was addressed when the borough had several of the residents who were utilizing the services of the designated municipal waste hauler and having their trash picked up, but refusing to pay the bills sent to them by the designated hauler.
Also, Code Enforcement Officer Tom Lang reported that William and Barbara Loner, the owners of the property at 978-980 Pennsylvania Avenue have not been in contact with the borough regarding a demolition order issued to them last month for the property. The compliance date for the demolition order is either on or before June 18, 2007.
It was also reported that a meeting has been scheduled for June 15 at the Tyrone Municipal Building with representatives of S & A Homes, the owners of the former Lincoln Elementary School. This is to discuss possible reuse of the building and surrounding property.
The borough has received numerous complaints regarding abandoned vehicles along borough streets. During May, notices have been sent to several vehicle owners in violation of the ordinance. The borough will continue to enforce this ordinance.
