With school starting tomorrow in Tyrone, the TASD Foundation’s favorite teacher contest is a great way to show support for area teachers while raising money for a good cause.
The mission of the Tyrone Area School District Foundation is to support scholarships and educational initiatives of the Tyrone Area School District.
The foundation will provide various opportunities such as field trips, teacher grants and other projects that are not currently available within the School District’s budget.
It is also the hope of the foundation to offer scholarships that will provide students who are graduating with opportunities for all levels of education, from the certificate level up to the baccalaureate level.
The Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation will serve as the administrator of the fund while a group of community citizens will serve as the Advisory Board.
Already, the group has started raising money. Many may have noticed the jars around town at various businesses asking individuals to vote for their favorite teacher. All current teachers are eligible for the honor and those wishing to participate by voting are asked to make a one dollar donation for each vote.
There will be one winning teacher from each of the schools – elementary, middle and high school. Winners will be announced at the first football game. The winning teachers will each receive a basket filled with various treats and goodies.
The “Vote for your Favorite Teacher” contest will not only help raise money for the foundation, but according to Jennifer Murphy, the hope is to make area residents aware of the new organization. Volunteers also promoted the contest at Tyrone Community Day at DelGrosso’s Park earlier this month.
For more information, individuals should keep watching for the voting jars at various local businesses.
