The Tyrone golf team took to the links at the State College Elks Country Club for the season quad match opener with Philipsburg Osceola , Penns Valley and Mount Union.
Once again weather became a factor in the finish of the match. Severe weather started to move into the area and once again play ended with a weather shortened match.
Tyrone came out with three wins to start their 2007-2008 campaign and go to 3-0 to start the season in conference play.
Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was freshman Jimmy Ferguson carding a score of 40, followed close by senior teammates Matt Brooks and Ryan Ruscio at 41, and Jason Tuscovich with a 42. Efforts by Eric Loose (48), and Kyle Updyke (49) closed out the varsity line up.
“Pins were pretty tough at the Elks Club,” said coach Ferguson, “but the kids did really well, they really hung in there and they did not give up, Matt, Ryan and Jason each had a hole where they carded either a double bogey or a triple, they need to lessen the big numbers and they will consistently post good scores. I think if they continue to work on the short game, they will be pretty hard to beat this season.”
Team Scores were as follows Tyrone: (164), Philipsburg (185), Mount Union (193 ), Penns Valley ( 214 ).
Tyrone will be hosting their next match on Thursday September 6, at Sinking Valley Country Club, against Lewistown and Central Mountain.
