Gretchen E. Hiller, of Foxdale Village, a retirement community in State College, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2007. She was 98.
Formally of Houtzdale, Gretchen was born July 15, 1909 in Philipsburg, PA, the daughter of Fred J. Hiller and Margaret Conrad Hiller.
Gretchen graduated from the Houtzdale High School, the Indiana State Teachers College and the Pennsylvania State College. She taught in the public schools of Houtzdale and Clearfield for 47 years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Houtzdale, having served on the Administrative Council and as an organist for many years; she was also a member of the United Methodist Women and Esther Circle.
Gretchen was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, The American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, The Clearfield Historical Society, The Clearfield Heritage Foundation, and The Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by brothers David and Fritz.
There will be no public visitation. There will be a public service in the Odd Fellows Cemetery Chapel in Brisbin on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 2 p.m. Reverend Bob Ford will officiate.
Internment will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Brisbin.
Reed Funeral Home, Houtzdale is in charge of the arrangements.
