The Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly breakfast at Joe’s Place tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
Speaking at the breakfast will be Machel Drahnak, Tobacco Program Coordinator for the Blair County Human Services Office.
Machel has been involved with Blair County’s tobacco control program at the Human Services Office since October of 2005. She is trained to facilitate the American Lung Association’s “Freedom From Smoking” program, which assists tobacco users to quit using tobacco products.
This program can be offered free of charge in community settings or at worksites.
Machel is also chairperson of Blair County’s tobacco awareness coalition, BREATHE (Blair County Reacts with Efforts Against Tobacco Hype and its Effects). The coalition has been providing tobacco prevention and cessation programs, and advocating for smoke-free environments since May of 2000.
The topic of Machel’s speech will be the “Clean Indoor Air Act.”
Act 27 of 2008, Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA), which will be implemented tomorrow, regulates smoking in public places and workplaces in Blair County and across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Machel will provide information on the Act, who must comply, how to apply for an exemption; followed by a question and answer session.
The Chamber appreciates reservations, but walk-ins are welcomed. Tickets are $6 in advance or at the door.
