Sunday, October 7 was “Homecoming Sunday” at First Assembly of God, Tyrone. This homecoming, marking the 74th anniversary of the church, was a great success. Many local people who once attended First Assembly came for this special service. Along with these, others, some from out of state, drove back to Tyrone to attend this special service and banquet. Pastor Glunt said, “It was a great time of fellowship. It was good to see the congregation get to embrace former pastors, and to hear the many memories shared from years past.” Among the dignitaries present were the keynote speaker Rev. David Blattner and his wife Doris. When in Tyrone, from 1961 to 1966, David was active in the Rotary and Doris taught music in the Tyrone public schools. Also able to be at the homecoming was a pastor many in Tyrone will remember, Rev. Harold Crosby. Rev. Crosby pastored in Tyrone from 1950 to 1961 and filled several buildings with children he brought in for Sunday school. Pastor Glunt said, “Everywhere I go I meet people who say, I used to go to Sunday school at your church when Harold Crosby was pastor.” It was a real honor to be able to have Rev. Harold Crosby, now 91-years-old, stand and address again the Tyrone congregation. Harold Crosby’s daughter, Carole Kimmel, still resides in Tyrone and plays organ at First Assembly. Also in attendance was Rev. David Crosby and his wife Betty. David Crosby, Harold’s son, is the Secretary/Treasurer for the Pennsylvania Delaware District of the Assemblies of God. Pastor Glunt said the church is already looking forward to next year’s “Homecoming Sunday” which is set for October 5, 2008. |
