The Tyrone junior high football team continued their late season march with a 22-8 victory over the Philipsburg-Osceola junior high on Thursday evening at Philipsburg.
Jeremy Miller highlighted a big third quarter effort for the Little Eagles with a pair of long touchdown runs and the Eagles used improved line play on both offense and defense to key their second straight win and third in their last four games, after beginning the season 1-3.
Miller, who led the Tyrone offensive attack romped 28 and 21 yards for scores to widen what was a slim one touchdown lead at halftime.
Caleb Chronister led a determined defensive effort with an interception and the Eagle “D” recorded four sacks as well.
Kyler Johnson plunged two yards for the only score of the first half, for the Eagles, and Zach Burke added the two-point run. Johnson, who had 41 yards nine carries had the big run of the series, dashing for a long touchdown, that was called back, but still getting credit for a 22-yard gain. Miller scampered 17 yards and then Johnson added the TD.
Matt Myers grabbed a two-point conversion pass from Stevie Franco following the second Miller touchdown.
Philipsburg-Osceola scored their only TD late in the fourth quarter against the Eagle reserves with Andrew Mann scoring on an eight-yard run and Pat Minsinko passing to Cole Curtis for the two-point PAT.
“This was a good win for us, our second in three weeks, with no game last Thursday,” explained Tyrone junior high coach Dan Plummer. “That layoff can be either good or bad. We used it to our advantage. We played well overall. Our lines did an especially good job on both offense and defense to key the victory over Philipsburg.”
