Thanksgiving is a time to stop and reflect on all the things we are thankful for. Some have more to be thankful for than others. But this Thanksgiving, several area volunteers will share their time on Thanksgiving Day to provide homemade meals for others.
Once again, DJ’s Cafe in Tyrone will be offering free Thanksgiving meals to area residents on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22.
Over the past several years, this tradition has grown and is now an annual event for the staff and volunteers at DJ’s.
When they first began, volunteers started out preparing 100 meals. That number more than tripled and over 350 meals prepared for individuals within the community in past years.
All the meals are cooked on-site and are delivered, free of charge, to individuals and families. The volunteers provide not only a hot meal, but also companionship to those who may otherwise not have the opportunity to share this thankful day with others.
For those who prefer, families are also invited to join together at DJ’s where they can sit down and enjoy the home cooked meal with others, served by the staff.
This year’s Thanksgiving meal includes: roasted turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, vegetable, a roll and butter, dessert and milk.
To order a meal, call 684-7851. Organizers ask that interested individuals call in advance to request a delivery time. Someone will be available to take calls Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Orders will be delivered from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thanksgiving day.
Interested individuals can also stop by DJ’s Cafe, located at 2068 Columbia Avenue, in Tyrone.
