When there’s a chill in the air, and leaves are blowing in the wind, that can only mean one thing, the Tyrone Soup Sampling will be here soon.
The Tyrone Community Partnership is once again busy planning this year’s soup sampling. The Partnership knows how busy everyone gets during the holiday season, so they wanted to take this time to invite everyone to participate in the 2007 event.
For those new to the soup sampling, the contest consists of area restaurants agreeing to prepare and donate their most popular soup for sampling. Townspeople purchase tickets which entitles them to a sampling of each soup, after which they vote for their favorite.
However, this year the Tyrone Community Partnership is inviting area churches and community organizations to join in the festivities as well.
Townspeople will still vote, and at the end of the contest, the ballots will be counted, the winners will be determined in two categories, amateur, and professional, then be presented with the coveted “Soup Ladle Award”, recognizing their culinary achievement.
The Soup Sampling is scheduled for Thursday, November 29 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Tyrone Armory.
Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. for participants. Each participant will set up on individual tables, which will be dressed by the Tyrone Community Partnership. Participants will be required to bring table decorations (if desired), soup, and ladle for serving, and a means of keeping the soup hot. They will also need to provide someone to serve the soup, and represent the restaurant, church or organization. The Tyrone Community Partnership will dress, and skirt the table, provide soup cups, spoons, napkins, crackers, dessert and beverages.
Each participant is asked to make six gallons of soup. To make sure the event has a variety of soup, each participant is asked to prepare only one kind of soup. Soup specialties will be taken on first call basis.
The Tyrone Community Partnership hopes to have a variety of soups from the area’s best restaurants, churches and community organizations. This is a great community event, and a great way to showcase a restaurant, church or organization. Last year, there were over 250 people who attended the soup sampling.
To register a restaurant, church or organization, call Judy at 684-2076; please respond by November 15.
