This photo was snapped just after noon on Saturday as the last coats had been accepted in the Kiwanis Club of Tyrone’s tremendously successful coat drive for the Tyrone Salvation Army. Bob Maser, Chuck Banas and Fred Miller were excited and pleased by the turnout as townspeople drove to the pickup point in the Reclamere parking lot and handed the coats to them. It was chilly at the 9 a.m. start, but things quickly heated up as the first of hundreds of cars began arriving. It was estimated that more than 500 coats and some clothing was collected on Saturday, and over the years it is estimated that more than 4,000 coats have been collected. Coats can still be dropped off at the Salvation Army building in Tyrone at 908 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Also, the Salvation Army will be conducting its annual Christmas Kettle Drive from now until Christmas.
