Christ United Methodist Church is celebrating Advent with messages on prayer, meditation and celebration.
On the fourth Sunday of Advent, December 23, church service will also include a Choir Cantata with dramatic readings, followed by Holy Communion.
The Living Light, a cantata featuring beautiful melodies and thoughtful dialogue, will be presented by the Chancel Choir during morning worship.
According to the church newsletter, the cantata, written by Elaine Schram, presents the Christmas story as seen through the eyes of those who witnessed the first Christmas in Bethlehem many years ago.
There are brief Bible-based, historically accurate monologues for ten characters, ranging from Mary and Joseph to members of the innkeeper’s family.
The monologues are interspersed among seven songs, each offering their personal perspective on the unusual events surrounding them.
The thoughts of the characters are based primarily on the accounts of the Christmas story in Luke 1-2 and Matthew 1-2.
On Monday, December 24, Christ United Methodist Church will host Christmas Eve candlelight service beginning at 7 p.m.
The special evening service will also feature a visit from “a guest at the inn”.
In other church news, the Ways and Means Committee reported nearly 84 items were donated for the recent basket auction and a total of $1,503 was raised. Organizers would like to extend their thanks to everyone who donated items and to all who helped make this event a huge success.
Also, remember the church office will be closed for the holidays from the close of business on December 20 until Wednesday morning, January 2.
