Stole gas
State police reported on January 7 that Jason Michael Oswalt, 27, Altoona was accused of pumping gas at Snappy’s in Bald Eagle and then driving off without paying for it. Oswalt was stopped while heading south on I-99 by state police and then provided false identification to the police. Oswalt was placed in Blair County Prison on a probation violation detainer.
Hit and run
On January 14, state police reported Robert A. Wertz, 26, Bellwood was traveling north on SR 0865 and while negotiating a right curve, Wertz traveled off the roadway to the left and struck the south curb, then a utility pole. Wertz’s vehicle came to rest in front of the Bellwood ambulance building. After being checked by ambulance personnel, Wertz then fled the scene on foot upon police arrival. Wertz was not wearing a seat belt and will be charged with numerous traffic violations regarding this incident.

Fell asleep
On January 14, state police reported Karen M. Rothgeb, 54, Tyrone fell asleep while traveling west on SR 220 in the Port Matilda Borough. Rothgeb’s vehicle left the roadway and struck the rear of a parked car. Rothgeb was transported to Mt. Nittany Medical Center by Port Matilda EMS. She was wearing her seat belt.

Crash
State police reported on January 15 a one vehicle crash involving Michelle Miller of Tyrone who was traveling south on I-99 at the Bellwood Exit, when a sudden snow squall caused the road to become iced over quickly and Miller lost control of her vehicle and hit a guard rail. Miller was wearing her seat belt and suffered no injuries.

Accident
On January 15, state police reported Jordan Beiter of State College and Darrell Sweeney of Ferndale were both traveling south on I-99 with Beiter in the left lane traveling beside Sweeney in the right lane. Beiter saw a vehicle sitting in the left southbound lane disabled from a previous accident, so he turned to the right to avoid hitting the other vehicle and lost control on the icy road. Beiter’s vehicle spun clockwise and went in front of Sweeney’s tractor-trailer. Sweeney struck the right side of Beiter’s Dodge Durango pushing it into the median. No injuries were reported and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
