Everyone get ready, because “Thoroughly Modern Millie” is heading this way.
On May 9 at 7 p.m. and May 10 at 2 p.m. the Grier School will be putting on a production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” at the Tyrone Area High School.
The play tells a fun filled tale of maturity, villainy, ambition and love in the “roaring twenties”.
Admission is free.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” was originally a 1967 movie starring Julie Andrews and directed by George Roy Hill.
The screenplay for the movie, written by Richard Morris, was originally inspired by the 1956 British musical, “Chrysanthemum”.
Then, in 2002, the movie was brought to the stage in a Broadway musical rendition of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” starring Sutton Foster.
The Broadway adaptation, which slightly differs from the original movie, was written by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan; with music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics by Dick Scanlan.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” tells the story of Millie Dillmount, a young girl from Salina, Kansas who moves to New York City to find adventure.
Suddenly Millie transforms from an innocent young girl into a “modern” woman of 1922, an era filled with Jazz, flappers and speak-easies.
Determined to leave her innocent ways behind, Millie devises a plan to marry rich and live a life of glimmer and glitz.
Yet, as the story unfolds, Millie begins to see that there is more to life than material wealth, there is something much greater.
Grier’s production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” is composed of a stellar cast of actors, musicians, dancers and teacher volunteers.
The play is directed by Kim Silverman, choreographed by the director and Jocelyn Hrzic and musical direction by Barbra Neumuller and Ginger Reinhardt.
The production stars Julie Mazer, a junior at Grier, as Millie Dillmount.
Ms. Mazer’s co-stars include Erin Nedelman, Jeremy Bigelow of Spruce Creek, Duste Walizer of State College and Sarah Bailey.
This play is sure to bring the entire audience a fun-filled night of love and adventure.
So, come laugh, live and fall in love as “Thoroughly Modern Millie” marches into town.
