Mr. Howard P. Searer, age 84, of Cape Coral, FL died Sunday, February 17, 2008 at 5 p.m. following an extended illness. He was born February 14, 1924 in Tyrone, the son of Reed F. and Annie M. Harris Searer. On June 26, 1951 he was married to Maxine Shultz who survives. Also surviving is one son, Scott (Kim) of Coconut Creek, FL, three grandsons – Ryan Little of Atlanta, GA, Jason Little of Jacksonville, FL and Kyle Searer of Coconut Creek, one sister, Enid McConahy of Melbourne, FL and one brother, Richard H. (Ann) Searer of Tyrone, a sister-in-law, Carol (Paul) Swayne of Tyrone and four nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Little and a sister, Ruth Abrams.
Howard was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1942. He was a veteran of service in the U.S. Army during World War II with service in the European Theatre where he saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war he was employed by the Long Island Railroad as a passenger conductor in New York City. In 1952 he joined the Tyrone office of Beneficial Finance and in 1958 was transferred to Key West, FL and later to Miami. He retired from Beneficial Finance in 1981 as an auditor and supervisor after 29 years service. Following retirement he worked in an advisory capacity for AVCO Financial and served two years on the Consumer Credit Counseling Board. Following Hurricane Andrew, he was one of “Andrew’s Angels” where, in Miami, he aided hurricane victims relocate and reestablish. He received a Signal Honor for that service. He was a member of Tyrone Lodge No. 494 F.&A.M. and B.P.O.E. No. 212 of Tyrone.
Private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
