Earlier this year, St. Matthew Church began hosting Angel Food Ministries, with the help of several other area churches.
Based in Georgia, Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.
Many people struggle each month to stretch their grocery budget, and area churches hope this program can provide some relief for area residents.
Angel Food is “restaurant grade” meat, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products and more, which are acquired through involvement with only the best producers/vendors of high quality name brand foods. It never includes “seconds” or “day old” products.
Each month, order forms including the menu will be made available through area churches for those who wish to purchase food that month.
A different menu is produced each month, at a cost of $30.
Participants who order the main menu may also purchase monthly specials at a great price.
Orders must be pre-paid by the specified date and pick-up will be held at St. Matthew Church.
Payments accepted include money order, cash, or the Access Card.
Personal checks will not be accepted.
This month’s orders will be accepted between 3 and 6 p.m. on August 8 and distribution will be August 23.
August’s menu includes 1.5 lb. ribeye steaks (4 x 6 oz.); 5 lb. chicken leg quarters; 28 oz. chicken breast nuggets; 28 oz. Salisbury steak dinner entrée; 32 oz. breaded chicken breast filets; 16 oz. smoked sausage; 16 oz. California blend frozen vegetables; 16 oz. frozen carrots; 16 oz. frozen chopped spinach; 10 ct. frozen waffles; 16 oz. bean soup mix; 1 lb. rice; 9 oz. instant potatoes (14 servings); 15 oz. sliced peaches; 32 oz. Borden shelf stable milk; one dozen eggs and one dessert item.
One or more specials are available, at an additional cost, to those who purchased the main menu items.
There are four August specials available.
The first is a 7 lb. family assorted grill box for $20. It includes 1.5 lb. baseball cut sirloin filet (4 x 6 oz. thick-cut); 2 lbs. juicy boneless skinless chicken breast; 2 lbs. St. Louis-style ribs and 1.5 lb. hamburger patties (4 x 6 oz.).
Special No. 2 is the 4.5 lb. steak and meat combo for $20.
The steak and meat combo consists of 1.5 lb. New York strips (2 x 12 oz.); 1.5 lb. bacon-wrapped beef filet (4 x 6 oz.) and 1.5 lb. bacon-wrapped pork filet (4 x 6 oz.).
The 4.5 lb. stuffed chicken breast combo for $18 is special No. 3.
It includes 1.5 lb. cordon bleu (4 x 6 oz.); 1.5 lb. broccoli cheese (4 x 6 oz.) and 1.5 lb. chicken breast Kiev (4 x 6 oz.).
Finally, special No. 4 is the fresh fruit and veggie box for $18. It comes with 4 red delicious apples; 4 lb. bag of oranges; 1 cello-wrapped lettuce; 1 large cabbage; 6 Russet potatoes; 2 cucumbers; 1 cantaloupe and 1 honeydew melon.
When picking up and order, individuals should bring a large box or laundry basket to carry items.
Angel Food Ministries reserves the right to substitute any of the above items due to availability, cost and quality.
Interested individuals can place monthly orders at St. Matthew Church from 3 to 6 p.m. on August 8, September 12, October 10, November 7 and December 5.
Distribution dates at Harkins Hall at St. Matthew’s will be August 23, September 27, October 25, November 22 and December 20.
Actual pick-up times will be announced each month.
Volunteers are always needed for distributions days. Interested individuals are always welcome to help spread the news of Angel Food Ministries.
