Mr. George R. Houser, age 69, of Lancaster and a former Tyrone resident died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in the ER at Lancaster General Hospital of natural causes. He was born March 23, 1938 in Philipsburg, the son of Charles and Marian Wilson Houser. He had been married to E. Grace (Lefever) Houser for over 22 years. He is survived by his wife, two sons – Michael (Cynthia) Houser of Arizona and David (Tina) Houser of San Antonia, TX, four daughters – Dawn E. (Paul “Jack”) Boas of Lancaster, DeAnn E. Stauffer of Mohnton, Dana E. (Douglas) Grimm of Strasburg and Susan R. Houser of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving are six grandchildren – Amber E. Falck, Adriane E. Bracken, Marty S. Grimm, Eddie G. Grimm, Jacob J. Houser and Lauren “Cookie” Houser; a great-grandson Gage M. Backus and a best friend, Richard “Dick” Burley of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Houser.
George proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School Class of 1956. He enjoyed hunting and taking his grandchildren fishing. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Penn State fan. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.
A celebration of George’s life was held at the Lampeter Church of the Brethren, Lampeter, PA on Monday, March 3, 2008 with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Interment was private at the convenience of the family. Memorial remembrances can be made in his memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, Lancaster, PA.
