Tyrone Borough Council, with the absence of Councilperson Bill Latchford, conducted general business at its March regular session. Mayor James Kilmartin read to council a letter from PA Attorney General Tom Corbett, who thanked Tyrone Chief of Police, Joe Beachem, for his role and effort in the latest drug bust that was tagged “Operation Blood Clot.”
Council also approved the following items:
• Donation of $300 to the VFW Teener League.
• Grace Baptist Church’s Easter Egg Hunt at Reservoir Park on March 15 from 3-5 p.m.
• TACO’s Easter Egg Hunt on March 22 at 1 p.m., and its Fishing Rodeo on April 26 from 8 to 11 a.m.
• Colonel Crowther celebration on August 2 and 3 at Reservoir Park, a proclamation designating Aug. 2 as Colonel Crowther Day in the borough, and the use of the City Hotel Park on Aug. 2 for an hour.
• A rescission agreement with SAL Chemical which allows the borough to enter into an agreement with Vopak for the correct chemical for the water plant. SAL Chemical bid on a chemical and then was unable to deliver, so the borough re-bid the liquid zinc orthophosphate and Vopak was the sole bidder.
• The purchase of a 2008 Dodge Charger police car to replace the 1997 unmarked car for the Tyrone Police Department. The new car will cost between $24,824 and $25,200. The monies were already implemented in the budget. The state contract for the vehicle was to expire on March 31.
• Tyrone track and cross country boosters’ “Emily Ingle Race” on June 7.
• Albemarle’s Fishing Rodeo at Reservoir Park on April 12.
