At 10:30 a.m. worship this Sunday, July 13, 2008, Tyrone Presbyterians will welcome the Dane Family Singers and guest pastor Norman Huff in a summer service that will feature music about god’s gift of summer sunlight.
Scott and Lauretta Varner Dane and their children Sarah and Nathan Dane of Lincoln Avenue in Tyrone will perform a family quartette selection, and Sarah Dane also will sing an original song she composed. The Danes attend Tyrone’s Baptist Church, and assist with the youth programs there.
Mr. Dane serves as a research assistant and data manager at Penn State, while Mrs. Dane works as a nurse at Health South Rehabilitation in Altoona. Sarah is a junior at Penn State, and Nathan will be a senior at Tyrone High, where he participates in both the basketball and the choral music programs. The Danes count it a blessing that they can offer a music ministry to Tyrone churches during the summer.
Reverend Norman Huff, interim pastor at Lower Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church, will serve as guest speaker for this Tyrone Presbyterian worship service. Huff will speak in the absence of Presbyterian preaching pastor and Epworth Manor chaplain Mark Liller, who this week will attend a Church of the Brethren Denomination Conference in Virginia.
As they host the Dane Family and Pastor Huff, Tyrone Presbyterians will celebrate mid-summer with hymns and organ voluntaries that feature hymns of gratitude for god’s gift of summer sunlight. Congregational hymns will include Edwin Excell’s bible school chorus entitled “Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam.” The audience also will unite their voices in singing “Heavenly Sunlight,” by Henry Zelley, as well as Eliza Hewitt’s hopeful hymn entitled “There’s Sunshine In My Soul Today.”
At the offertory, church organist Richard Merryman will present “Sunrise Tomorrow,” composed in 1924 by Billy Sunday pianist, Benton Ackley. As mid-summer approaches, Tyrone Presbyterians urge people to join the Dane Family, Reverend Huff, and other worshippers, as they celebrate god’s gift of summer sunlight this Sunday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m.
And by the way, the service will be held whether the sun shines, or is hidden by clouds!
