Stever finishes 8th in girls District-6 golf

The State College Elks is the home for Girls District 6 golf.
Play is two days totaling 36 holes of golf, with four players advancing to Regionals.
Tyrone freshman Olivia Stever finished in the eighth position with a two-day total of 185 (96-89).
“Olivia shows a lot of promise, she worked really hard on her game this fall, and as a result she was able to compete at a good level,” said Tyrone golf coach Greg Ferguson. “If she continues golfing in the spring and for the whole summer, she will be competing for the title next year.”
Olivia was a shot out of the 7th position and just nine shots out the medal winning 6th spot.
“She wasn’t happy with her first round of 96, stating that a couple big numbers got in the way of a good score. She bounced back on Thursday with a very consistent day, carding only one high number. We have to remember she is only a freshman. She is very talented and it is up to her how far she wants to advance next year, if she plays, she will be with the best, if she chooses not to play, she will be in the middle of the pack, just like any other sport. It comes ultimately down to who wants to sharpen their skills on the off time. I believe she had just enough taste of success golfing this fall, to want to work on having more success, she doesn’t like to lose, and that is a great incentive to strive to be better.”
State College’s Sara Jackson was the winner posting scores of 81-76-157 followed by second place finisher Amanda Kehr from Hollidaysburg, with scores of 86-76-162.
