Late scores spell trouble for Lady Eagles softball

The Tyrone girls softball team battled Central on Thursday at the hilltop diamond at the Harry K. Sickler Athletic Complex. Central came from behind to score nine times in the final three innings to steal a 9-3 triumph to improve to 4-6.
After three and a half innings of scoreless softball, the Lady Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Freshman left fielder Kassie Gardner drove in two runs and Paris Harden another for the Tyrone girls, who played probably their best all-around game of the season.
Central pitcher Julie Hale pitched a four hitter, shutting the Tyrone girls out in all but the fourth inning, striking out five and not walking a batter, and smacked a triple and drove in a pair of scores on the offensive side.
“This is the best game we have played all year. It was a great day for a game and the girls responded. Brooke Garbinsky had a great day defensively at shortstop and Lindsay Christine turned in a double play on a pop foul ball and throwing the runner out at first.”
Lady Eagle senior catcher Lindsay Christine was the only Tyrone player with multiple hits, with two singles. There were no extra-base hits by either team.
The next outing for the Tyrone softball team (0-9) will be on Tuesday, at Philipsburg-Osceola, starting at 4 p.m.
