Oscar L. ‘Bud’ Hample Jr.

Oscar L. “Bud” Hample Jr., 89, of Bald Eagle died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 8:58 a.m. at his residence.
He was born August 1, 1918 in Tyrone a son of Oscar L. Sr. and Ruth (Weston) Hample. On November 27, 1943 in Baden he married Madeline J. McCollim. She died August 31, 2002.
Surviving are two daughters, Beth Yarnell and husband Jay of Tyrone, Rebecca Wertz and husband George of Bellwood, four sons, Michael and wife Diana of Warriors Mark, David of Erie, Jeffrey and wife Cathy of Jackson, Mississippi, Tony at home, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a sister Dorothy Sharer of Tyrone and a brother George of Aliquippa. He was preceded in death by a son Oscar III, a daughter Madelyn Jane, two great-grandchildren Ben and Lauren Hample and two brothers Leo and Eugene.
He retired in 1981 from Chicago Rivet and Machine Company, Tyrone as a machinist following 32 years service.
He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Anderson-Denny VFW, Tyrone.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a private first class with the Tenth Corp Field Artillery in the Philippines, Leyte Island and New Guinea.
Bud was a wonderfully gentle, kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed camping and working outdoors. He was a Notre Dame subway alumnus dating back to the days of radio, listening to Knute Rockne.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 17, 2008 at 3 p.m. at St. Matthew Church with Fr. Joseph T. Orr Celebrant. Committal with veteran’s honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Christian Wake services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
