Mrs. Marjorie E. Barr, age 89, formerly of 1314 Lincoln Avenue, Tyrone, and a guest at Epworth Manor died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 11:39 a.m. at the Manor. She was born March 11, 1918 in Tyrone, the daughter of Harry Thomas and Mary Morgan Eckert. She was married to Robert Barr who preceded her in death. She is survived by three nieces and three nephews – H. Thomas Eckert, Colorado; David Lynn Eckert, and Michael Eckert, both of Independence, MO; Marjorie Walker and Susan Rice, both of Tyrone and Barbara Shunk of Gettysburg and four grandnephews and two grandnieces. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother, Constance E. Walker and Harry Eckert.
She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and at one time had served as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of various church committees. She was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1937 and had been employed for over fifty years by the Tyrone Area School District retiring in 1993. She served as private secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and later as the School District Business Manager.
Funeral service for Marjorie E. Barr will be held Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Reverend Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment will be in Gatesburg Cemetery, Gatesburg, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
