Local scouts readying for emergencies

November 29, 2007, 24 Webelos Scouts from Tyrone Cub Scout Packs 300 and 320 and Bellwood Pack 28, met at the Duncansville Community Center for the Chief Logan District Readyman Badge and First Aid Meet.
All participants had a chance to complete all of the requirements for the Webelos Readyman activity pin. Organizer Steve Weir, Scoutmaster of Troop 30 in Duncansville, thought it was a huge success with 74 registered participants and wished more scouts will take advantage of these training opportunities in the future.
In one evening, the boys had an opportunity to visit the Duncansville Fire and Ambulance Departments. With the help of Boy Scout Troop 30 of Duncansville, which hosted the event, the boys discussed and practiced first aid in the following areas: First Aid Equipment, What is First Aid, Burns and Fire Victims, Cuts and Stretchers, Bike and Swim Safety, Poison and Choking, Heart Attack and Stopped Breathing.
The next Chief Logan District First Aid Meet is scheduled for March 15, 2008 at the Tyrone High School. All Boy Scouts in the District are urged to join in for a day of First Aid and Water Rescue Relays and Swimming Checks for Summer Camp. Patrols must pre-register online at www.pwcbsa.org.
