Letter to Sports Editor

Sports Editor,
I think it is very sad that there is so much negativity from so-called fans, whether it be high school, college, or professional. I was saddened to see the letter from Sue Franco. These coaches dedicate so much time to training athletes to be better on and off the field. It is too bad fans cannot be so disciplined on their behavior. I am a great fan of the Tyrone Golden Eagles, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. We get so accustomed to winning that losses affect fans more than they should. With high school and college, we have to remember that they are young adults who participate because they love the sport.
Fans must remember that there are other fans sitting around you. Someone’s parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles. No student athlete should be bad-mouthed for their performance. I would like to apologize to Sue, John, Johnny and their family for the ignorance of I hope only a few. I, for one, am very grateful that coach Franco came to Tyrone to coach. I have appreciated what he has done for Tyrone football, and the athletes he has developed into fine young men. I just hope that he will give us another 14 years, or more. And I look forward to seeing Johnny on the basketball court this year. He always seems to bring game and doesn’t give up. He is a special athlete, as well as all the other Tyrone Golden Eagles. Thanks for another great season.
