Esther L. O’Connor

Mrs. Esther L. O’Connor, age 84, of Lincoln Avenue, Tyrone and a guest at Epworth Manor, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at 6:50 p.m. at ARHS Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born March 25, 1923 in Mill Hall, the daughter of Harry J. and Amy V. Berry Lannen and on February 12, 1948 at Mill Hall was married to William A. O’Connor who preceded her in death March 23, 1995. She is survived by six children – Thomas W. (Betsy) of Pittsford, NY; Catherine Ann Hoyne (Jim) of Phoenix, AZ; Reverend Deborah L. O’Connor-Slater of Auburn, NY; David S. (Dana) of Warriors Mark; Mary L. (Fizzie) Lewis (Rick) of Tyrone and John D. of Elk Grove, CA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren – Patrick O’Connor, Matthew Hoyne, Christopher Hoyne, Ben O’Connor, Erin O’Connor-Slater, and Amy, Evan and Ethan Lewis. Also surviving is a brother, Thomas J. Lannen of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Reed and Samuel.
Esther was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd and had served as a member of the Kitchen Crew of the church for a number of years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Mill Hall High School Class of 1940 and of the Montgomery Hospital School of Nursing, Norristown, from which she received her R.N. degree. She was a homemaker and a caregiver to the members of her family and enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, cooking, reading, dancing, swimming, ice skating, golfing and riding in a convertible.
Funeral services for Esther L. O’Connor will be Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor Susan Halverstadt officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd or to the Tyrone Snyder Public Library.
