CPHS golf tournament to feature ‘media all-star’ team

In addition to the possibility of winning a new car with a hole-in-one drive, participants in the tenth annual CPHS golf tournament will be “rubbing elbows” with some local celebrities.
“We have assembled a really excellent team of notable media types to play at Scotch Valley on Wednesday, September 5,” said Dave Hopkins, CPHS Director of Fundraising/Public Relations.
“The team is made up of Joe Murgo (WTAJ-TV Chief Meteorologist), Marty Radovanic (WJAC-TV News Anchor), Todd Parnell (Altoona Curve General Manager) and will be rounded out with the addition of Nancy Solack from Realty Abstract Services (Hollidaysburg) who is sponsoring the team.
“These folks are all very proficient at the game, and I look for them to do very well and have a lot of fun at the same time,\” added Hopkins.
Teams and individuals are still invited to sign up for the scramble format event which kicks off with a buffet luncheon and concludes with an awards ceremony. Golfers will have a chance to compete for trophies in many categories.
The tournament, which raises money for homeless animals at the shelter, is a milestone event for CPHS as it marks the tenth year the tournament will be held.
“We are particularly grateful to Dan Lawruk who established this great fundraiser a decade ago and has stuck with it, constantly improving it and making it fun as well as challenging,” Hopkins said.
“We also thank the many familiar golfers who have come out year after year to support us and test their skills on the links.”
Major sponsors of the benefit outing include M & T Bank, Pepsi, Subway and S & T Bank, with dozens of other area businesses contributing.
