Tyrone 13-14 year olds hammered in opener

Off To A Rough Start!
Tyrone VFW 13 & 14 year-old all star team faced off against the Hollidaysburg team on Monday evening at Ferner Field in Game I of a regional round robin state VFW action.
Most of the highlights of the game came from the Golden Tigers side of the ball as they pounded out 16 hits and scored 15 runs to beat the Tyrone team by a score of 15-2 in six innings of play.
Tyler Henessey went the distance on the mound for Hollidaysburg scatters seven hits, while striking out five Tyrone batters. Jordan Franks, Luke Rhodes and Chad Barton each had three hits a piece to lead Hollidaysburg\’s offensive charge.
For Tyrone, Jeremy Miller went two-for-three and Korry Cowher hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cowher also took the loss on the pitching side of things.
“Hollidaysburg came to play tonight,” said Mark Jackson, Tyrone Head Coach. “They had good pitching, solid defense, and strong hitting, while we had decent pitching, mediocre hitting, and weak defense. We did not play like All Stars this evening, but one game does not make a season and I know our boys have the ability to rebound in our next game.”
Tyrone plays its next game against Altoona, at Drost Field in Bellwood, on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
In other tournament action, the Bellwood All Stars beat the Altoona entry by a score of 12-2 in five innings of play in Bellwood on Monday evening.
