TACO advances to VFW 15/16 year old finals

TACO Advances to Area 4 VFW Championship Series
After losing Game Two of a three game series to Ritchey\’s Well Drilling of Hollidaysburg this past Friday night by a score of 6-5, the Tyrone TACO 15/16 year-old VFW Teener League Team rebounded with a 10-0 victory on Saturday evening to advance to the Area 4 VFW Championship Series.
The Saturday evening contest highlights included Johnny Shaffer pitching a one-hitter through four innings of play with Eric Loose closing it out in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.
TACO hitters took control of the offensive side of the game as Johnny Shaffer hit a three-run homer over the center field fence in the fourth inning to seal the victory. Other hitting stars included Andrew Clark with two hits and an RBI, Evan Brush had a single, an RBI, and scored twice, Austin Barefoot had a double, RBI, and scored one run. Eric Desch roped a key double to highlight the five-run fourth-inning and finished with an RBI and scored once as well. Doug Rudy also had two hits and scored once.
The stage is now set for the 15/16 year-old VFW Championship Series with Ketrow Insurance (21-1) from Altoona. This will be a best-of-three series. Game one is set for tonight at Drost Field in Bellwood, starting at 5:30 PM.
Game two is scheduled for Wednesday at Ferner Field starting at 7:30PM.
Game three, if necessary will be played Thursday evening at 5:30 in Bellwood.
