PennDOT awarded a contract yesterday for a project to construct two new Park and Ride lots along I-99.
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., of State College was awarded the contract as the lowest of five bidders with an amount of $916,802.
The first of two lots will be built in Antis Township near the Bellwood Exit of northbound I-99 and will be accessed from Route 1008 (Skelp Mountain Road). When completed the lot will be paved and house 27 parking spaces including two handicap accessible spaces.
The second lot will be in Tyrone Borough near the Tyrone Exit of I-99. It will be situated between Route 1012 (10th Street) and Route 453. The lot will span under the I-99 overpass and will house 52 parking spaces including three handicap accessible spaces. A left turning late will be added to Route 1012 to facilitate access to the lot. Both lots are designed to accommodate bus movements.
Work is expected to begin in mid July, with completion expected by February 2008.
