Martin Oil bombs Dick’s Pharmacy

Martin Oil finished up their George B. Kelley Federation baseball game on Saturday, the same way they started. Although the start was June 8, at Geesey Park, and the completion was Saturday at Vets Field, due to the first part of the game getting suspended because of lightning and rain, Martin Oil scored in every inning to wrap up a 17-2 decision in five innings.
With a comfortable 9-2 cushion before lightning stopped the June 8 game, Nate Gray finished the game for a complete-game victory, giving up two runs, none earned, on just one hit, a single by Corey Kutruff to begin the third inning for Dick’s Pharmacy, striking out five and walking three.
Beginning the second part of the game at Vets Field, Gray with Kutruff on first, Gray set Dick’s down leaving Kutruff at second base, retiring three straight batters.
Earnie Kelley began the Martin Oil fourth with an infield single and then promptly stole second base. Kelley would also end the inning with a fly ball to center field. In between, Martin Oil scored five times. Jimmy Watters swatted a triple to left center to score Kelley, with one out. Chad Coho plated Watters with a single to left, and Brian Hostler reached base on an error by Dick’s left fielder. Both runners advanced one base on a wild pitch, before Gray walked with two outs to load the bases. Matt Hinton single to right to score Coho and Hostler, before Adam Kovac drove in Gray with a single up the middle.
In the top of the fifth, Watters lined a solid single to right and pinch hitter Jared Coho and Hostler drew walks to load the bases for the second straight inning. Trey Mock walked to force in Watters and Gray scored Jared Coho with an RBI fielder’s choice. With Hinton batting, Hostler scored on a wild pitch to end the game on the 15-run lead anytime after three innings mercy rule.
Gray helped his own cause with six RBI, including a double and a grand slam home run before the game was suspended at Geesey. Justin Manning had three hits, and Mock, Watters and Chad Coho each added two base hits. All of Justin Manning’s hits came in the first part of the game before he was hit with a line drive while pitching against Dick’s in a June 12 game, at Bellwood, that Dick’s eventually won 6-4. Manning later had surgery and has not played since.
