SOAR carnival

Earlier this month, Tyrone middle school students participated in the inaugural SOAR carnival. The carnival was organized and run by the SOAR committee which consists of a group of middle school teachers who both volunteer their time and help sponsor these activities. In an effort to reward positive student behavior, these teachers have planned, organized and carried out a number of events this school year with the most recent one being the carnival. Students who were selected as the student of the month, students who have had perfect attendance and students that have helped serve others were rewarded with free game tickets. Game tickets could also be earned by winning such events as challenge 24, chess, tug-of-war, wiffle ball home run derby, etc. To the students’ delight, the tickets could be redeemed by dunking their favorite teachers, and participating in other games to win t-shirts, bracelets and tattoos. Between events and games, the students also feasted on the traditional carnival foods – popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones. By the end of the day, both teachers and students alike were full of smiles. (The Daily Herald/Amanda Golden)
