Tyrone Lady Eagles fall to Bishop Guilfoyle girls

Just two days after an exciting 7-5 win in a slugfest over Backyard Rival Bellwood-Antis, the Tyrone Lady Eagle softball team (3-16) suffered a letdown in their final game of the 2007 season. Tyrone could manage only three hits in their season finale against Bishop Guilfoyle (16-4) and Lady Marauders pitcher Miranda Merilli, in a 4-0 BG win.
“We were sluggish and never really got untracked,” explained Tyrone softball coach Lois Loncher. “We played well defensively, especially Megan Turiano and Teanna Kobuck.”
Neither side committed an error at Top of the Hill Field at the Harry K. Sickler Athletic Park, but only Ashley Pennabaker, Megan Turiano and Teanna Kobuck were able to get a hit off Merilli, who turned in her ninth shutout of the year. Merilli fanned nine to increase her season total to 167 strikeouts, and walked none. Kobuck’s hit was a double, the only Lady Eagle extra-base hit of the contest.
Tiffany Seasoltz set the table with three hits and two runs scored, and Kiley Dick continued her heavy hitting with four hits, including two doubles and a triple, and drove in three runs.
Laura Thompson struck out one and walked two for the Lady Eagles.
Kimberly Cherry, Ashley Pennabaker and Megan Turiano have been selected to play in the District 6 All-Star Game Saturday, June 23 at Penn State.
