Preventative health program provided at Tyrone Senior Community Center

Blair Senior Services and Tyrone Hospital co-sponsored a community education program entitled “Preventative Health: Steps You can take to Maintain Health and Prevent Illness”.
The program was presented by Victor Santillan, M.D., General Medicine practitioner and Board Certified General Surgeon. Dr. Santillan has a practice in Tyrone and is an active member of the Tyrone Hospital medical staff.
People who attended the program learned about steps they can take to maintain and improve their health and heard a broad overview of areas of prevention to address a person’s general well being. They also learned how taking preventative health steps can reduce their risk of developing illnesses.
Some of the topics that were addressed in Dr. Santillan’s overview included: nutrition, lifestyle changes, appropriate use of low dose aspirin, vaccines, poly pharmacy, use of seat belts, stress management, diagnosis and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, and prevention of various types of abuse including physical, psychological, sexual, and financial.
“When it comes to preventative health, it is never too late to start,” said Dr. Santillan.
