Tyrone Area School District to open fitness center to the public

Residents looking to get fit for summer now have another option.
The Tyrone Area School District will open its new fitness room to the public starting today. Currently students and staff are able to use the room.
Starting this week, community members will be offered the opportunity to use the modern facility with a planned circuit for targeting various body parts.
There is also a variety of cardio-machines which can be used to improve cardiovascular fitness.
The school board agreed to open up the fitness center earlier this year since schools often make such facilities accessible to the public. They did agree upon a monthly fee to help cover the cost of having instructors available and machine maintenance.
Community members will be charged a fee of $15 per month to use the facility, which will be open Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Fitness Center instructors were certified at a workshop earlier this year and will be available during fitness center hours.
The goal of the new fitness program at the school is to help students and staff learn how to become physically fit and to continue throughout their lifetime. Now community members have a chance to participate as well.
The master circuit contains 24 stations. It consists of 30 seconds to set weight and 30 seconds to lift at 40 percent of the max, 10 to 15 times. In between lifts, there is a stepper to be used before moving onto the next lift. A clock keeps track of time for the circuit training.
Machines within the circuit include the leg extension, leg press, prone leg curl, seated lever arm curl, low back, abdominal curl, shoulder press, low row, incline press, pec deck, triceps press and lat pull.
For those looking for a cardio workout there are two treadmills, two elliptical machines, one recumbent bike, one shoulder bike, two upright bikes and one stepper. Keys are available to set the workout. The key information can then be downloaded onto the computer for assessment.
