Six TAHS students qualify for 2007 PMEA Region III Chorus Festival

Six Tyrone Area High School students have qualified for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s Region III Chorus Festival, which is being hosted by the Penns Valley School District February 21 through February 24.
According to TAHS choral director Catherine J. Young, the students have qualified for this prestigious choral festival by placing within the top 12 chairs of their vocal part at the recent PMEA District 6 Chorus Festival.
PMEA Region III is a combination of District 6 (Blair, Bedford, Cambria and Somerset counties) and District 4 (Clinton, Centre, Clearfield, Mifflin, Huntingdon, Fulton and Juniata counties).
The choir is comprised of 178 high school vocalists.
According to Young, if these students place within the top four chairs of their respective vocal sections at Regional Chorus, they will then be eligible to attend the PMEA All-State Chorus Festival to be held in Hershey in April.
Qualifying TAHS students include: Soprano II, Sofia Revolorio, who placed second at Districts; Alto I, Laura Thompson, who placed tenth at Districts; Alto II, Stevie Woodring, who placed first at Districts; Tenor I, Garrett Ray, who placed twelfth at Districts; Bass I, Josh Shaffer, who placed eighth at Districts and Bass II, Jonathan Harris, who placed third chair at District Chorus.
This year’s Region III Chorus Festival choir is being conducted by Dr. Rodney Eichenberger.
The festival culminates with a public concert to be held in the Penns Valley High School auditorium Saturday, February 24 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door the day of the concert.
