Bald Eagle Area outguns Golen Eagle wrestlers

The Tyrone wrestling team made the trek to Wingate on Thursday evening to face Bald Eagle Area. The task is rarely ever pleasant, and Thursday night was certainly no exception. Bald Eagle Area, warming up for a semifinal match at the Tyrone gym on Saturday afternoon in the Triple-A District 6 Team Duals, limited the Golden Eagles to wins in just four weight classes on the way to a 58-17 thumping.
With the dual beginning at 140, Anthony Romano (11-11), who has wrestled exclusively at 130 this season, moved up to 140, where he decisioned Rusty Fetzer 7-4 to start the match off well for the Eagles.
That would be the first and last Tyrone win, however until the two schools turned the lineup over to the 103-pound weight class.
With his team trailing 40-3 at that point, A. J. Schopp (27-2) pinned Travis Foresman in 3:44, for his 13th pin of the season – a number which proved to be unlucky to Foresman.
Tyrone also got back-to-back wins at 125 and 130.
T. J. Albright (22-6) picked up his first win by technical fall, with a 19-0 win over Sam Peters in the second period, at 125. Albright has won 15 of his last 16 matches, with his only loss in that streak, a 5-2 setback to giant killer Sam Zimmerman of North Star. Zimmerman claimed the championship of the recent Thomas Chevrolet Tournament at Bedford High School, by defeating both the number one seed, Glenn Winslow of Cambria Heights, early and then downing the second seeded Albright in the finals.
At 130, Cody Weaver (10-10) moved down a weight class from his usual 135, to wrestle John Decker. Weaver knocked off Decker 4-1 to claim the Eagles’ final win of the evening.
Jeremy Barlett (3-19) was pinned by returning PIAA state place winner Grant Passwall in 1:13 at 145, Jake Smerekar (17-10) lost a 16-0 tech fall to Caleb Hoffman at 152, Justin Schopp (16-11) was pinned by A. J. Robinson in 2:49 at 171, Brian Kochik pinned Donnie Conrad (17-10) in 1:30 at 189, Kevin Struble won by a 20-3 tech fall over Brady Williams (7-9) at 215, and Brandon Oswalt (2-7) was pinned by Watson in 1:05 at heavyweight.
Donnie Hunter (4-15) lost by fall to Cory Gates at 112, in 2:40, and Tyler Poorman (5-17) was pinned in 3:50, at 119, by Klinger. Undefeated Quentin Wright (160) and Jake Shirk (135) received forfeits from the Eagles, who had several starters out of the lineup.
Tyrone (5-9) will finish out the season with three home meets next week. The Eagles will host Central Cambria on Tuesday, Altoona on Wednesday, and Penns Valley on Saturday.
Bald Eagle Area will wrestle top seed Central Mountain (15-0) at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Tyrone.
