Tyrone 7th grade boys split pair over weekend

Tyrone\’s seventh grade basketball team took on the Keith Rams Thursday at the Roosevelt gymnasium, and Bellwood-Antis’ Blue Devils Saturday afternoon at the Building II.
Thursday’s tipoff with the Rams started slowly as both teams got a feel for each other. Tyrone\’s defense matched up man to man, while Keith settled into a taunting 1-3-1 zone for the duration of the game.
The Eagles Steve Franco and Richard Crabtree found early foul trouble, however teamates Nick Romano and Jared Schaffer picked it up defensively for them while J.D. Dorminy led the Eagles offensively with 10 points.
Tyrone trailed at the break 8-10.
During the second period, the Eagles turned the ball over countless times and shot a dismall 5-13 from the free throw line; and could not find an answer to handle the talented tandom of big men for the Rams inside.
Tyrone was down only 23-19 with less than two minutes in regulation but Keith converted their fouls shots down the stretch and took the Eagles down this evening 28-19..
On Saturday, at the Building II against Bellwood-Antis turned into a double overtime barnburner.
The Blue Devils came out on fire led by Brian Leap, whose game high 19 points had the Blue Devils\’ out ahead early 15-4, and at halftime with a lead of 17-8.
The pesky Eagles however would not lay down in this game, and with full court pressure, while double teaming Leap, the entire second half, forced B-A into many turnovers and fought back to tie the game at the end of regulation 25-25.
Tyrone won the game following two overtime periods 29-28.
Steve Franco led Tyrone offensively with 12 points and Cody Dickson came in and got the Eagles back in the game with five dearly needed points at the midway point of the second period.
Tyrone, 10-2 overall, plays Keith, Thursday at Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday play the Bellwood-Antis A team at the Building II at 4:10 pm.
