Northern Bedford shells Bellwood-Antis wrestlers

Bellwood-Antis and Northern Bedford made up a wrestling match that had been postponed from Dec. 12, due to the Blue Devils late football playoff march, at bellwood on Wednesday night. Although the B-A grapplers got a forfeit win from Troy Weyant (103), major decision by Timmy Collier (130) and pins from Ricky Shawley (145) and Timmy Watters (189), the Blue Devils fell to Northern Bedford 45-22.
The Panthers, leading the Tri-County League, jumped out to a 27-6 lead after six weight classes had been wrestled and continued on from there.
With Northern leading 9-0 after Dylan Snowberger repeated a pin over Caleb Stevens (3-14) in 4:38, at 215, and Will Grace scored a takedown in overtime to edge Cody Smith (3-3) 3-1, at 285, the Panthers coach, Jan Clark elected to move 103-pounder Matthew Reasy away from B-A freshman Troy Weyant. Weyant had already decisioned Reasy twice – 8-6 at the Conemaugh Township Tournament and 5-1 at the Tri-County Tournament – so Clark gave Weyant (14-8) a forfeit and moved Reasy up to 112, where he also won by forfeit. Snowberger pinned Stevens in the second period at the Tri-County Tournament in 2:38.
Northern Bedford 119-pounder Tyler Chesney pinned Donnie Partner (3-15) in 2:39 and Steve Risbon pinned B-A junior Shane Noye (7-11) in 4:54 at 125.
At 130, Timmy Collier (5-12) and Kyle Dick traded a takedown for a reversal and a 2-2 tie after one period. In the second stanza, Collier picked up a penalty point and escape to take a 5-2 lead, then added a takedown and nearfall in the third period to earn a 10-2 major decision, worth four team points.
Cody Fink (5-15) was pinned in 1:28, at 135, by Cody Grace, and Dustin Pruznak (3-10) dropped a 6-4 decision to Keith Dick at 140.
Once beaten Ricky Shawley (21-1) recorded the fastest fall of the meet by decking Dylan Becker in 1:08 at 145, leading 2-0 on quick takedown, before turning Becker for the fall. Shawley also pinned Becker in 0:33 at the Conemaugh Township Tournament
That would be all for the Blue Devils until the final bout of the night, at 189. In between, Ronnie Wilson (11-7) dropped a 3-1 overtime decision to Myles Crawford at 152, Garett Wyland (6-11) fell to Ethan Boyd 5-1 at 160, and Troy Byers ( 3-16) lost to Dustin Reichard 8-5 at 171. Wilson was pinned by Crawford at the Conemaugh Township Tournament in 1:44.
At 189, Blue Devil sophomore Jimmy Watters (9-11) led only 4-3 after the first period, on a takedown and reversal, but reversed Caleb Hagelberger to his back for the fall in 2:24 to close out the dual.
“We knew coming in that Northern Bedford was a quality wrestling team,” said Ron Wilson, Bellwood-Antis wrestling coach. “They are not leading the Tri-County for no reason. They are always well-coached and sound. Our kids did what they had to do, they were out there aggressive. We have a younger team that they do. We lost a couple tight ones that I think we very easily could have won. They would not have won the dual meet for us, but would have made the score closer. Our kids did a decent job tonight. We will have to go to the practice room and keep working and see what happens.”
Bellwood-Antis travels to mount Union on Friday for a 7 p.m. dual following the junior high meet at 6 p.m.
Junior High
Bellwood-Antis took the junior high match 54-43, with falls by Trevor Helsley at 95, and Lincoln Stehley at 110, wrapping up the victory.
Helsley, Stehley, Buddy Shaw (122), Travis Taylor (145), Nic Cover (165) and Gerald Price (210) all won by pins. Travis Lyons (250), Troy Boutiller (80) and Zach Rutherford picked up forfeit wins.
