Local man arrested for attacking his mother and stabbing a friend

Schoch Hollow Road in Snyder Township was the scene of an aggravated assault case.
Kathie Sims of Tyrone, the mother of the accused, was allegedly attacked by her son, Brandon Keirs, age 22, on January 5 at their residence. Keirs allegedly became angry with Sims and held a knife to her throat. He apparently calmed down for a period of time and became angry again. According to the state police press release, Keirs then grabbed a knife and went after Sims a second time, this time threatening to kill her. At this point, Jill Maxwell of Altoona, a visitor in their home, stepped in and attempted to help. Keirs allegedly stabbed Maxwell in both wrists.
Maxwell was treated at the Altoona Hospital for stab wounds to both wrists. Her injuries were non-life threatening. Sims sustained a headache and complained of pain to the neck and back area.
Keirs was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Craig Ormsby. He was then placed in the Blair County Jail on $50,000 straight cash. He was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person and one count of terroristic threats.
