Eagles 7th grade team notch ninth victory

Tyrone’s seventh grade basketball team took on the Hollidaysburg Tigers Saturday afternoon at the Building II.
The Tigers, who are very big inside, matched up with our Eagles in man defense at the opening tip-off, but following a flurry of impressive offense retreated to zone defense when they could not match up with the speed of the Eagles; nor contain Tyrone’s Richard Crabtree who had a game high 15 points or Steve Franco who scored 10 points.
Tyrone went from man defense to zone defense throughout the game keeping the Tigers offense off balance.
The Eagles were led defensively by J.D. Dorminy, Nick Patton; who battled a bruiser inside most of the game, Kaleb Chronister, and Nick Romano who also nailed a three point field goal.
The Eagles, 9-1 overall, went on to win 38-23.
“Many basketball spectators emphasize scoring, and forget defense is involved, “said Coach Dick Stever. “This squad is an excellent defensive team, fundamentally strong, and works hard on defensive drills at practice and it has been paying off in our games.\”
The Tyrone seventh graders take on Keith, Thursday at Roosevelt at 7:30 p.m., and then play Bellwood-Antis, on 2:30 Saturday, at Tyrone.
