Huntingdon pummels Blue Devil wrestlers

The Bellwood-Antis wrestling team ran into a buzzsaw on Thursday evening at Huntingdon, where the Huntingdon Bearcats hammed the Blue Devils 71-6.
The young and mostly inexperienced Bellwood-Antis squad was unable to break through against a tough veteran Bearcat team that swept all but one match, recording nine pins, a forfeit, and a technical fall among their 13 wins.
The only Bellwood-Antis win was at 145 pounds, where the Bearcats forfeited to undefeated B-A senior Ricky Shawley (10-0), when Eli Norvell (6-0) a transfer from Virginia, where he won a state championship in 2005, was unable to make weight.
Dustin Pruznak (0-1) dropped an 8-3 decision to Mark Smyers at 140, and Caleb Stevens (2-3) was edged 5-3 by Matt Marter at 215, in the only matches that went the full six minutes.
The match began at 135, where Adam Fye pinned Cody Fink (1-7) in 2:51. Kyle Thompson pinned Ronnie Wilson (6-5) in 1:03, at 152, Bobby Mort pinned Troy Byers (2-6) at 171, in 1:03, Jason Kylor pinned Jimmy Watters (3-6) in 1:22 at 189, Ryan Everhart pinned Cody Smith (0-1) in 0:43, at 285. Troy Weyant (7-3) was decked by a much larger Jesse Runk in 1:11 at 103, Addison Yingling pinned Donnie Partner (1-5) in 3:00, at 119, Landon Yingling pinned Shane Noye (3-4) in 5:12, at 125, and Pete Mykut pinned Timmy Collier with six seconds remaining at 130.
At 152, Vance Myers won by a 15-0 tech fall over Kyle Shawley (0-3) in 2:44. Nathan Mykut picked up a win by forfeit at 112.
“We have a real young squad and we knew we would be in for some stout competition early in the season,” explained Bellwood-Antis coach Ron Wilson. “We will keep on working and hopefully by the end of the year, we will be able to beat some of these kids. Huntingdon has a really good team. This was good for the guys to see where we need to go.”
The next action for Bellwood-Antis (1-2) will be the annual Blair/Huntingdon counties Tournament on Jan. 6, at the Altoona High School Fieldhouse.
