New bedding for the domestic abuse shelter

Thanks to the generosity of Jennifer Lake, a Lia Sophia Advisor in Altoona, Family Services’ Domestic Abuse Shelter was presented with new bedding, towels and beautiful Lia Sophia jewelry.
“I just wanted to help,” explained Jennifer Lake. “Family Services told me they were in need of sheets and towels for their Domestic Abuse Shelter. I hope the jewelry will make the women feel beautiful and help build their self-esteem.”
With the help of some shopper-happy friends, Lake was able to purchase 12 pillows, 12 blankets, 24 sheet sets and 20 towel sets. “
Many of the women leaving our domestic abuse shelter are starting over with a new life and have left everything behind, including bedding, towels and jewelry,” explained Cheryl Gonsman, Community Educator for Family Services Incorporated. “Sometimes women ask us if they can take the sheets to their new home and we let them.”
Family Services Domestic Abuse Project shelters between 75 and 100 clients each year. Besides the shelter, the Domestic Abuse Project offers counseling, Protection From Abuse filling, referral and information services and support groups.
