Lady Blue Devils open against Tyrone girls

The Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis girls volleyball teams opened their respective seasons on Tuesday evening at the Tyrone Elementary School gym. The Lady Blue Devils defeated their Tyrone counterparts in three straight games for a 25-11, 25-9, 25-6 win.
Alyson Sharer delivered nine service points, including four aces and Chelsea Wilson had seven kills and two blocks to lead the Lady Blue Devils. Rachel Albright added seven digs and Lauren Leap had 32 assists for B-A.
Kim Cherry had 11 assists for the Lady Eagles and Samantha Martinez added four kills.
Both local schools have new coaches this year-Allison Claybaugh is the new Lady Blue Devil coach, assisted by Annette Wilkins, replacing Stephanie Burner, who led B-A to a pair of second-place district finishes. Replacing Dave Eckberg at Tyrone is Jessica Hetrick for the Lady Eagles.
The Tyrone junior varsity began their season on a bright note, winning 25-13 and 25-16, with Teanna Kobuck giving the Lady Eagles eight service points and Jessica Miller supplying 10 kills.
